读后续写题型要求考生在既给的一段350词以内的语言材料基础上，根据该材料内容及接下来的两段的开头句进行续写，将其发展成一篇与给定材料有逻辑衔接、情节与结构完整的150词左右的短文。
从宏观角度看，读后续写文体主要为记叙文，所选材料一般具有较强的故事性、逻辑性、戏剧性特点。
材料主要涉及学生的实际生活或学生关心的话题。续写中，字里行间须能彰显人性光辉，体现人与自然、人与社会、人与自我的和谐相处。读后续写题型能综合考量考生的逻辑思维、评判性思维和创新思维能力。
从微观角度来看，一篇成功的读后续写离不开如下三个关键得分要素：
01 思维流程的可视化
即所续写的文章部分与已给文章部分在思维流上一脉相承、一气呵成，不存在主题上、思维上的生硬或脱落。时间线、地点线、情感线等能得到自然顺畅、合乎情理地延伸与承递，直至主题思想的达成。
落地到写作中，考生应该让阅卷老师清晰地看出故事发展的明线和暗线。
考生千万不能为了凑字数胡写一气；考生的笔下应该有明晰的写作方向---主题意义的达成。
本文以新高考I卷为例：阅读下面材料，根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段，使之构成一篇完整的短文。
A MOTHER'S DAY SURPRISE
The twins were filled with excitement as they thought of the surprise they were planning for Mother's Day. How pleased and proud Mother would be when they brought her breakfast in bed. They planned to make French toast and chicken porridge. They had watched their mother in the kitchen. There was nothing to it. Jenna and Jeff knew exactly what to do.

Then she caught the smell of burning. Oh dear! The piece of bread in the pan had turned black as well.
